COMMUNITY

COMMUNITY

Central Michigan University is much more than a higher education institution that offers academic degree programs and resources to tuition-paying students. CMU students, faculty, and staff form an academic community in the tradition of Western universities, which began, in earnest, with the founding of the University of Bologna (Italy) in 1088 CE.

Medieval universities, which were inseparable from the Catholic Church, emphasized the holistic integration of faith and reason. Today, St. Mary University Parish helps to foster the connection of faith and reason with service (i.e., the promotion of justice, acts of spiritual and temporal mercy, and peace-building) for CMU students, faculty, and staff. Hence, the parish encourages all to be learners and teachers of living good lives full of love.

St. Mary University Parish encourages and offers tools to all in the university to live good lives full of love wherein faith, reason, and service are holistically integrated. To foster the conditions to make this possible, we build relationships and bring students, faculty, and staff together for many events, often in collaboration with others, to promote an inclusive, welcoming, hospitable, and close-knit university community.
